A firefighter needs 100 hours of training before legally being allowed to enter the interior of a burning building. How long do you think firefighters have to get dressed? Less than two minutes! This includes all of their gear, which can weigh from eighty to one hundred twenty pounds.

Avoca Volunteer Fire Department

At around 2:45pm (Oct 2nd), we were dispatched to a field fire at 358th and Highway 34 with Weeping Water Fire and Manley Fire. Despite our best efforts, due to wind speed and direction, the fire jumped a tree line into standing corn before it could be contained. At this point, Elmwood Fire, Murdock Fire, Eagle Fire and Rescue, Nehawka Fire and Rescue, Syracuse Fire and Rescue, and Cass County Emergency Management were paged for mutual aid.

In addition to multiple agencies assisting with fire suppression, we also had Cass County Behind The Badge on scene, handing out water and helping take care of the responders fighting the fire, Martin Marietta assisting with water supply, and multiple farmers disking the field.

Dispatch was one of our biggest assets for this fire, getting all of the departments paged out quickly and providing a patch between Cass and Otoe County so everyone could communicate and stay safe!

We can't thank everyone who helped enough! It was amazing to see everyone working together for one common goal!

As a reminder, everything is still incredibly dry and harvest is in full swing. If you see something that doesn't look right, let us know as soon as possible. With how dry everything is, fire spreads very fast!

Town Hall Update

We are getting there, Grant has been submitted. Fingers crossed we receive some grant money to help with our “Saving the Town Hall “ project. Private donations continue to come in and we are SO GRATEFUL for what we have received so far. I love reading all the notes that have been written along with their donations. The Town Hall has created so many memories for so many people.

Lofte trunk treat

Bring the whole family down for a fun Halloween filled day at the Lofte! Trunk-or-Treat is like Trick-or-Treat except rather than going door-to-door, participants can decorate the trunks of their cars and hand out candy, goodies, prizes, and surprises - and maybe even a few tricks!

Want to Trick-or-Treat?

The entry fee is $5 per child, or $10 per family. While you're here you can also swing by our concession stand where we will be selling hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks. Take your snacks and relax in our theatre where we'll be showing Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoons! And, while you trunk-or-treat, you can vote for who you thought had the most well decorated trunk! And make sure you come in costume - this is Trick-or-Treat after all!

Want to decorate your trunk?

Participants will be able to vote for who they thought had the best trunk and prizes will be given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place! There is no entry fee for trunks, just decorate as best you can! Please pre-register your trunk by sending an email to sponsor@lofte.org, and say "I want to compete at Trunk-or-Treat!"

Want to help out?

We'll be hosting a candy drive through Noises Off! Bring a bag of candy or Halloween themed goodies (non-consumable please) and drop it off at the box office before the show and you'll get a free popcorn!
