From the Avoca Board of Trustees:

Reminder: Motorized vehicles are NOT allowed in Tefft park!!

The Fire Department recently had a scare with children driving a 4-wheeler and another on a mini bike.  Parents PLEASE be aware of where your children are and what they are doing.  This could have had a tragic ending.  Additionally, motorized vehicles ARE NOT allowed in the park.  Children under the legal driving age should not be driving these vehicles on the streets.

Quest for ‘SPAMALOT’ at Lofte Community Theatre

Manley, NE -  King Arthur and his knights are on a quest to find the Holy Grail and their search begins at the Lofte Community Theatre!

The Broadway smash, ‘Monty Python’s SPAMALOT’ opens on the Lofte stage Friday, July 21.  The stage musical is lovingly ripped from the 1975 cult classic film, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”   Winner of three Tony Awards, ‘SPAMALOT’ retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.  But, in true Monty Python style, their adventure takes a silly spin.  The production features beautiful show girls, cows, killer rabbits, plague-ridden peasants and rude Frenchmen.  ’SPAMALOT’ originally ran on Broadway for three years and was seen by more than two million people.  Popular songs from the show include, “The Song That Goes Like This,” and “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”

Directed by Kevin Colbert, the production features Chris Berger of Louisville as King Arthur and Catherine Bobst of Lincoln as Lady of the Lake.  In 2016, they played leads Harold Hill and Marian Paroo in the Lofte’s production, “The Music Man.”  Sir Lancelot is played by Wade Mumford of Lincoln.  Aaron Spracklin of Elmwood shines as Sir Galahad.  Brave Sir Robin is brought to life by Matthew Parker of Papillion and Lowgaen Schmidt of Louisville is the humble Sir Bedevere.

“These are some of the best voices in the area,” said Colbert.  “We’ve got a great cast and that should translate into a great show this summer.  Python is sort of check-your-brain-at-the-door humor, so folks can come and just laugh.”  Colbert does mention that there is some mild adult humor and suggests a PG-13 rating.

Show dates for ‘SPAMALOT’ are July 21-23, 27-30 and August 4 and 5.  Tickets are $19.  Sunday, August 6 is already sold out so those interested in tickets should make their reservations soon.  The Lofte is also offering a Medieval themed pre-show luncheon, complete with games and entertainment available for purchase on Sunday, July 23 and 30.  Advance reservations are required for the meal.  The Lofte box office can be reached at 402.234.2553, or tickets can be purchased online at Lofte.org.

Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program Welcomes Two New Volunteers

The Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program is proud to announce that two new CASA advocates were sworn-in by Judge John Steinheider on June 30, 2017. The new CASA advocates are Karie Kirkland McKinley and Kay McMahon. There are a total of 20 Cass County children who are under the jurisdiction of the court due to abuse and/or neglect. Children range in age from two to 17 years old. Currently, 13 active CASA advocates are serving these children. CASA advocates usually work with one case at a time. They get to know the children and write reports for the Judge, making recommendations about what would be best for the child. They become a stable, reliable presence in the child’s life during a very difficult time, and advocate for the child to have a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible. The Cass County CASA program was started in 2006. CASA advocates are ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing by having an impact on the lives of abused and neglected children. Most volunteers donate about 2 hours per week (or 8-10 hours a month) and all training is provided. A portion of the pre-service training expenses were paid for by a grant from the Nebraska CASA Association and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant. If you are interested or want more information, please call or e-mail Debbie Green, Volunteer Coordinator at 402-296-9521 or dgreen@casscasa.org or visit our website at www.casscasa.org.

Cass County CASA program is a 501c3 program that is funded by donations, grants, Keno funds and fundraisers. Additional information can be found at www.casscasa.org , www.nebraskacasa.org or www.casaforchildren.org
